Covid-19 Emergency Fund
In Place of War has established a COVID-19 emergency fund, to support the change-makers and community leaders we work with in the Global South (across Africa, The Middle East and Latin America). In these communities that already face the challenges of conflict and extreme poverty, the impact of COVID-19 is multi-faceted. The lockdown led to communities unable to work with no governmental support, people are unable to buy food and essentials.
The In place of War COVID-19 emergency fund issued small grants through an application process, open to our change-maker network, to support critical challenges around provision of food to communities, PPE and medical assistance during these times of crisis, and we have to date distributed $50,000 to change-makers from 27 communities, in 13 countries.
With this funding, the change-makers have organised community kitchens, distributed food packages, often feeding thousands, and even run mobile sound systems / radio stations to combat feelings of isolation while in lockdown.
A huge thank you to our amazing music partners Beatport, AFEM (The Association of Electronic Music), and Insomniac Events who helped raise the funds for our emergency fund via donations to their live streams.
