In Place of War recognises that in order to create and make art in fragile communities, there needs to be safe spaces where that can happen. In Place of War has a 20 year history of working with existing grassroots spaces, as well as developing new spaces in some of the most challenging contexts in the world - gang-affected communities, conflict zones and indigenous communities affected by conflict. We support capital build projects and the repurposing of disused spaces, with funding, capacity building, equipment, mentoring and impact measurement.

In Place of War believes in creating spaces for action and change. We create artivism programmes that provide spaces for young people to discover their agency and develop their own creative solutions and advocacy projects, to make the change they wish to see in their communities and the world. We harness the power of the arts to engage and galvanise communities in making behaviour changes to help reduce conflict and climate change - whether using theatre to change perceptions of disability, or music galvanising people around climate change, we know that art has the power to reach people’s hearts and minds.

In Place of War believes in the power of creativity to transform the prosperity of communities. We have created a number of University-certified creative entrepreneurship and music education programmes to support communities facing conflict. Our Creative and Social Entrepreneurial Programme (CASE) has been delivered across 21 countries, supporting hundreds of young creative entrepreneurs. We also support those in executive positions in commercial entities.

SUPPORT
In Place of War understands that change-maker organisations at the grassroots often lack access to funding, resources and capacity. Often, right at the frontline, these organisations are making lasting, transformative change with very little resources. We support those organisations to sustain themselves, through catalyst-funding, mentoring, access to our Global Music Industry Advisory Board, equipment donations and peer-to-peer learning.

In Place of War believes music, theatre and visual art to be great mechanisms in making change. By facilitating projects and programmes that support people to be creative and collaborate, we enable the creation of new art and give platforms to those with the most marginalised voices in the world. Through connecting people and curating innovative programmes, we provide platforms for their art to reach the biggest audiences possible.
