IN PLACE OF WAR Cultural Ambassadors
We recognise those people who have become part of the fabric of In Place of War, offering their time, skills, connections, and many other means of support, to help us grow the amazing In Place of War community. This increases our impact and helps us to continue building creative projects around the world.
As a sign of recognition and our appreciation, we thank the following people as our official Cultural Ambassadors:
Mark Dieler
Kristine Pukite
Charlie Miller
Dr. Susan O’Shea
Eddie Stewart
MARK DIELER
Latvia and Sicily based German-Italian from Ranco in Italy, Mark has been working internationally since 1998, of which 12+ years were spent mainly on the African continent. Involved in numerous projects between hospitality and events, he worked with both underground and top-tier artists and locations.
Partner of Berlin-based LONA Musik, he continues producing events and tours and works with Tallinn Music Week, Sicily Music Conference, Trans Europe Halles, In Place of War, Dirty Deal Audio (Latvia), Paavli Kultuurivabrik (Estonia) and various other organisations.
Two current projects are Cindy & Kate, a collaborative, Baltic grassroots network of venues and cultural spaces supported by the Nordic Culture Fund; and the establishment of an artist residency space in Sicily, where he spends as much time as possible.
KRISTINE PUKITE
Kristine is from Liepaja in Latvia. After graduating from art school, she left for London in 1996 where she ran top-level bars; organised afterparties for the likes of Prince; and delivered private events for clients such as Maria Carey. Following this, she opened clubs and hotels in Latvia, Venezuela, and Zanzibar, as well as organising events and concerts before returning to Europe in 2020. Since returning to Europe she has been managing logistics for hospitality, events, workshops and small-medium size gigs.
CHARLIE MILLER
Charlie is a Bristol-based filmmaker and director of The Mono Grande; a film production company specialising in live music content and documentary. Charlie has shot and directed live music coverage with some of the world’s biggest bands, on some of the biggest stages and studios, including Glastonbury, Download, Reading Festival, The O2, Brixton Academy, BBC Maida Vale and Abbey Road Studios. Charlie's work with In Place of War has taken him across Europe, Asia, South America, the Arctic and much of East Africa, where he has shot films with some of the most marginalised and remote communities in the world.
SUSAN O’SHEA
Susan is a Senior Lecturer in cultural sociology and founding member of the Music and Sonic Studies (MASS) research group. Passionate about using music and sound to challenge inequalities and inspire action, her research examines gender, social justice movements, cultural participation and digital archives. Music and sound are powerful tools for social change, but music worlds are often challenging spaces for women and minority genders. As an Arts Emergency mentor, Susan supports young people interested in education and careers in the arts, humanities and creative industries. You’ll often find her at gigs in a Manchester grassroots music venue or performing with her band Factory Acts.
EDDIE STEWART
Eddie is a scientist and DJ, originally from Birkenhead, but resides in Reykjavik. He is a huge advocate for In Place of War, and helped to design and deliver the Around the World in 80 Raves campaign. He actively supports across various activities and has become very much part of the global community.
