GLOBAL MUSIC ADVISORY BOARD

In 2020 we formed the In Place of War Global Music Industry Advisory Board. Recognising the power of collaborating with the music and wider entertainment industry from the incredible success of our existing partnerships, we wanted to form a collective of engaged, enthusiastic, compassionate individuals to support and guide our work. In response to the pandemic, working with organisations like Beatport, Insomniac Events and Shambala, we raised £150k for our COVID Emergency Fund via fundraising live streams, providing grants to the change-makers in our network with the most urgent need. We know that, through collaboration and solidarity, the difference we can make to music communities in places of conflict, has far more impact. One of the most powerful ways of doing this is by establishing a worldwide movement of creative professionals who care about and want to contribute to positive change. So we have united leaders of the international music industry in supporting the work of In Place of War and have already begun some fantastic projects as a result.

TESTIMONIALS

Jamie Franklin, Roland:

I've been part of the GAB for over 2 years, and it's safe to say working with IPOW has changed my life. We've been able to support change-makers in several locations including Colombia, South Africa and the Middle East. Giving people in areas of conflict or extreme poverty the keys to unlock their artistic potential is one of our goals, including showing them how to use the equipment and getting mentoring from our global A list artists. Enabling a safe environment to create is essential for the future of our partnership, and I hope it never stops!

Janesta Boudreau, Independent Music Industry Exec:

In the day-to-day it's easy to lose sight of how music and art is not just a business. It's also a life saver. Coming from an artist management background, and then on to music licensing, I have always enjoyed being a connector-of-dots. In my advisory role on the GAB with In Place of War, being able to introduce people from my wider network to those making REAL change in their communities - whether it be for an equipment donation, setting up an artist collaboration, or simply for advice - I can honestly say, it's the best feeling in the world, and all parties get something out of the interaction. Humans helping humans, with little effort but with a whole lot of love.

Kim Rowell, ITN productions:

IPOW is a game-changer; through the integral projects, initiatives and campaigns they run, they’re making enormous impact to people’s lives on a global scale. I’ve had the privilege of witnessing this work first-hand with the IPOW team in Colombia, and it was life-changing – the difference it makes and the insight and knowledge I gained shifted my perspective and expanded the restrictions I’d place on my own realms of possibility. Inspiring doesn’t come into it, these people are remarkable.

You can’t underestimate the importance of offering communities the tools and opportunities to create change for themselves, it’s empowering, and IPOW is leading the way in making a real, tangible difference which is oh-so-important and very much needed in today’s society.

Tommy Young, Google:

IPOW's mission resonates so strongly with me that I feel compelled to be involved in their cause(s) as much as I possibly can. The work they are doing is critical, especially with the focus on areas of the world that need it most. I try to bring the lessons learned and insights from the work to my day-to-day, and try to think about how this work can be expanded to other areas that might not seem in need, as I think the whole world could benefit from this type of collaboration, nurturing, and change-making.

Shannon Herber, A0K1VERSE:

Supporting and collaborating with IPOW is important to me because the work they do literally changes lives and shows how powerful art can be as a force for good in the world.

Being involved with IPOW has impacted my work tremendously - it continuously reminds me to think globally, to add a charitable component to our projects whenever possible, and to always find joy while working in the music industry. IPOW allows us to build a global music community while uplifting each other through the alliance of art and commerce.

Julien Fehlmann, International Relations & Music Association:

Witnessing In Place of War's work brings more than priceless inspiration. It enables relationships to bud, ideas to sprout, and projects to flourish. It sustains the sharing of views and practices across the world that nurtures creativity and imagination. It bolsters thinking thanks to the inspirational people one meets. IPOW’s sensible and impactful approach to development through cultural means proves that sound does not need to be costly.
