CASE COLOMBIA
CASE Medellín
In partnership with the British Council Colombia, In Place of War delivered a five day ‘train the trainer’ programme to cultural leaders to prepare them to deliver the Creative and Social Entrepreneur Programme (CASE) with young people in their organisation.
In January-February 2020, the five organisations, Ciudad Comuna, Corporación Culturizzarte, and Círculo Innovador, Lluvia de Orión and Old Guns Rap, delivered CASE to 60 young people across the city. Drawing on case studies from IPOW’s global network of cultural leaders and a philosophy of learning by doing, CASE is certified by the University of Manchester. Six of the most promising ideas have been awarded seeding funding and support from a mentor to further develop their creative project. The selected projects included: a historical memory tour in Comuna 13; a hip hop festival to raise awareness of environment issues; clothes alteration training and job support for unemployed youth; and arts-based environmental projects for children and young people.
CASE Digital 2021
In partnership with the British Council, Ruta Naranja, Fundación Mi Sangre and the Alcaldía de Yarmual, In Place of War delivered a digital version of their Creative and Social Entrepreneur Programme using the online learning platform, Canvas. 35 young emerging creative and social entrepreneurs participated in an 8 week self learning programme accompanied by weekly workshops via Zoom. 7 of the most promising projects were selected for mentoring and seed funding. The selected projects ranged from an artistic development for emerging artists from disadvantaged backgrounds, a non-binary clothing range, and the development of a digital farmers’ market for local farmers to sell produce in the region.
As a final stage of the project, the participants are organising a co-creation and networking event to develop working clusters to strengthen and boost visibility of their projects to stakeholders. The event will see the two groups of mentees connect and collaborate to continue developing their projects. The event is due to take place in August. 2021
Further editions of CASE in Colombia
The British Council has received their budget from the UK government and are currently allocating funds to priority areas for the coming year. In addition, they are currently negotiating contracts with the Colombian government on future projects in which a roll out of CASE across various regions of the country was under discussion.
